The Sheep

updated 11/08/05

We have naturally colored  Corriedale Sheep, Corriedale/Romney crosses, and Clun Forest sheep. All of our breeds and corsses are wonderful dual purpose sheep.  They have beautiful wool for spinning (we have a fleece page you can visit here) and currently we have white,  black, and silver sheep.  The sheep have  nice, gentle, dispositions,  which makes them easily handled by youngsters and oldsters alike! 2004 Lamb Photos are at the bottom of this page.

Pictured below is our registered Clun Forest ram lamb, RTF Claud.  He was only a lamb when this photo was taken. We purchased two bred Clun Forest ewes in December of '03 and will keep that line as our registered Clun Forest flock. We will use the ram as our sole breeding ram for the flock. Some attractive characteristics of the Clun Forest breed which originally hails from Clun Forest in England are as follows: small head for easier births, twin and triplet births are common, superior milk production, minimal grain supplementation, excellent consistent wool, very hardy in all weather, and good meat. Rams tend to put these characteristics on most breeds they are crossed with.

Past News

The 1999 Chenango Co. fair was a great success for all the whole family.  All four of us took home a trophy and many ribbons. Our youngest won his first trophy. The sheep were very cooperative, even Otis the ram! We took lots of Grand Champions and Best of Shows and despite the pouring rain on show day we all had fun.

The Fair this year wasn't as hectic. The kids are older and we had a popup camper to retreat to for relaxing and more importantly for lunch! We all won trophies and ribbons again and all in all it was successful fair for us this year. See the Evening Sun newspaper article below for the Fair Results. (click on thumbnail to enlarge)

We sent 5 fleeces to the NY State fair, 4 of them placed, our best being 2nd place and two third place fleeces. The 3rd and 2nd placed fleeces are pictured above.

All of our wool was sold over the internet this year to hand spinners!

Fairs 2002

We only showed fleeces this year due to too many conflicts. At the county fair we had best in show, and 2nd place in the naturally colored fleeces, and grand champion and reserve grand champion for the white fleeces. At the New York State Fair we had two firsts and two seconds in both classes. We sold all our wool within one week! Covering the fleeces seems to have paid off both in terms of show results and ease of use as well as customer appreciation!

2004 Lambs

This year we have a black Corrie/Romney X ram lamb for sale. These sheep have quiet and gentle dispositions and are dual purpose sheep, whose parents have award winning fleeces and excellent confirmation. We also have a registry eligible Clun ram lamb for sale. He was one of a set of triplets pictured below.  The Cluns are another dual purpose sheep, good for meat and wool.

We are enrolled in our third year of enrollment in the voluntary Scrapie certification program.
